Clothing
There are no definite rules when it comes to what you should wear but the following should help get you the best results:
Stay away from clothes that are heavily patterned or multi coloured as these tend to distract the eye.
For portraits that are more formal a plain coloured shirt or an item with a collar works well. For a more relaxed portrait a simple dark or white tee-shirt or top is a good idea.
Clothes that are more classic are a good idea as fashionable clothes can date quickly.
Please bring a couple of changes of clothes to try different looks. This will give you more to choose from.
Longer sleeves tend to be more flattering on adults.
Avoid wearing jewellery where possible as jewellery can also distract the eye.
Makeup
The most important thing when wearing makeup is to keep it simple and avoid putting on extra makeup for the session. Here are some guidelines to help you keep it simple.
Eyeliners: If you use eyeliner use it sparingly to enhance the eyes.
Eye shadow: If using eye shadow it should be applied subtly to enhance the eyes, not to add colour. Use as little as possible and stay with neutral or subdued colours.
Blush: Use blush very sparingly or not at all. If you want to use blush apply it lightly to the cheekbone to add colour. This is especially important for black and white photos as the blush will show as a shadow and make the cheekbones seem to recede.
It is a good idea to bring some make-up with you in case you need to top up during the session.
Hair
Your normal hairstyle is fine.
Please remember to bring a hairbrush with you.
If you wish you can cut your hair before the shoot but if you do this it is a good idea to wait at least a week before your photo shoot as it normally takes a few days to settle down after the cut.
Advice for Younger Children, Babies, and Newborns.
The time of day for your session is especially important for babies. Please pick a time just after a nap and when energy levels are good. For younger children a time when your child is alert and full of energy is best.
If your baby has had inoculations it is best to wait a few days as he/she may not be in best form.
If your child has a toy or toys that they really like bring it along as this will help.
Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
In order to get the best results from your session if your child or newborn baby needs to be in good form. If he/she is not, please call and cancel the session and a new time will be arranged..
